Maybe your child breathes through their mouth constantly, snores at night, or wakes up exhausted. Dark circles under their eyes, trouble concentrating at school, a narrow palate that seems to be affecting everything.

If this sounds familiar, you've probably wondered what's actually going on.

Here's the thing: a narrow jaw does more than crowd teeth. It can restrict the airway, may affect how your child's face develops, and is associated with challenges with sleep, breathing, focus, and overall health. It's a domino effect that can start with one restriction.

When we intervene early, while your child is still growing, we can expand the jaw and open up space that can support healthy breathing, better sleep, and proper development. Early treatment has the potential to change the trajectory.

What is Functional Orthodontics?

Functional orthodontics is treatment that works with your child's natural growth to support proper space and function for healthier development. We use custom appliances, like palatal expanders and other functional devices, to gently widen the jaw while your child is still growing.

As the jaws widen, new bone naturally fills in, creating permanent expansion. This opens up space that can support healthy nasal breathing, proper tongue positioning, proper tooth development, and natural facial growth.

It's care that prioritizes function first. Aimed at supporting a better airway, better breathing, better sleep, and better focus. And a healthier, more confident smile as a natural result.

What to Expect

KUPD-18-0263-Web-Design-Concepts-Home-White-Zigzag

Every child develops differently, so we treat them that way. We evaluate your child's airway, breathing, and jaw development, and we listen to your concerns because you know your kiddo best.

Active expansion takes 3-6 months. The first few days might feel a bit weird for your kid, but it passes quickly. You'll notice small gaps forming between the front teeth pretty soon. That's a sign it's working. Once expansion is done, the appliance stays in place for a few months while new bone locks in the expansion permanently.
